Orthokeratology treats vision using special contact lenses that rest on the surface of the eye to temporarily reshape the cornea to improve vision. The lenses work by flattening the center of the cornea, changing how light is bent as it enters the eye. Most orthokeratology lenses are worn overnight, then removed during the day. This procedure allows clear day time vision without any glasses or contact lenses, and has the added benefit of being the best method proven to slow the progression of myopia (shortsightedness).
With high incidence rate and great harm, strabismus and amblyopia affects the visual development of children, resulting in poor vision and imperfect stereoscopic vision. Children with these eye issues are generally not fit for sophisticated scientific and technological work. Strabismus is an issue associated with eye alignment. The eyes do not point in the same direction and/or might not move together. The misalignment may come and go or be permanently present. Amblyopia is reduced vision in one eye caused by abnormal visual development early in life. Amblyopia generally develops from birth up to age 7 years. It is the leading cause of decreased vision among children.
Glaucoma actually refers to a group of conditions that lead to eye (optic) nerve damage. This nerve transmits signals from the eye to the brain to produce the image that we see. When a significant number of nerve fibers are damaged, your side (peripheral) field of vision is lost – this vision loss gradually extends towards your central vision, until eventually all sight is lost. Vision loss caused by glaucoma is permanent. It is the second leading cause of blindness.
A cataract is a clouding of the normally transparent and flexible lens of the eye. This condition usually develops over some time and interferes with light entering the eye, which affects a person’s ability to see clearly. If left untreated, people with cataracts may eventually go blind. Both eyes may be affected, although not usually to the same extent.
